Trumpeter's Lullaby

The art of trumpet playing.. so musical, so graceful, beautiful, and oh so frustrating. This is the journey of my trumpet studies; my quest for perfection, or just good tone.

Busy weekend...

This past weekend was really busy for me, so alas I did not get to post as much as I wanted. I am quite pleased with myself because I did still practice on Friday and Saturday. yay! (I do have the habit of occassionally slacking over the weekend. eeps!)

Saturday- was not a good day.. I practiced for a couple hours off and on but I just didn't feel good, I'm sure other trumpet players know what I mean. It's all there but it's not as easy or comfortable as usual. I spent a good deal of time on the Beversdorf Sonata. On the positive side this is the first off day I've had in awhile. whooowho!

Sunday- had a 2 hour jazz band rehersal, but didn't spend any additional practice time on my school stuff... Everyone needs a day off right? ;)

Today! - today was a great practice day! I thought I sounded pretty darn good.. :) my vibrato still needs some work, but my tone is really coming along. I spent an hour or about an hour and a half on the 3rd movement of the Hummel. Wow.. it was a little frustrating, but in the end I feel like I accomplished something. I can almost get all the turns on the last page at a tempo of quater note = 60. I kind of wish I was doing the Carnival of Venice instead, lol, I find that piece easier- though, the Hummel Concerto has really grown on me, it's great. After I eat some supper and do some homework I'm going to practice for another hour.

What I think I need to work on in addition to everything else: playing softly (now that I have an improved tone I need to be able to keep it at all dynamics); vibrato; my range (it seems to have disappeared today.. nooooooooooooooo.. lol ); and I'm sure tones of other things but well my food is ready and I am hungry.
